What is IATI?

The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) is a voluntary, multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the transparency of aid, development, and humanitarian resources. IATI brings together donor and recipient countries, civil society organisations, and other experts in aid information who are committed to working together to increase the transparency and openness of aid. Over 1500 organisations now publish their development and humanitarian spending to IATI.

UNAIDS Secretariat’s Contribution to IATI

IATI publisher since December 2016, UNAIDS Secretariat is regularly publishing budget and expenditure data at country level. Publication of UNAIDS Secretariat data as part of IATI is guided by our commitment to making information about programmes and operations available to the public.

In accordance with the IATI Standard, activity files are organized following the 5 Secretariat Functions of the UNAIDS Secretariat, as defined in UNAIDS 2022-2026 Unified Budget Results and Accountability Framework (UBRAF):

  • S1. Leadership, advocacy, and communication
  • S2. Partnerships, mobilization, and innovation
  • S3. Strategic information
  • S4. Coordination, convening and country implementation support
  • S5. Governance and mutual accountability

Annual Country Level Budget and Expenditure Data of The UNAIDS Secretariat as Published in IATI

In 2023, over US$ 64 million were invested by the UNAIDS Secretariat at country level to support national HIV responses across 79 countries, compared to more than US$ 67 million in 2022 and US$ 76 million in 2021.
