Joint Programme Results

In 2022, HIV and social protection services were scaled up in Colombia, including combination prevention among young people and key populations (UNFPA, WHO). The Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance (IBBS) study among migrant and refugee populations revealed an HIV prevalence of 0.9% and lower viral suppression in those with irregular migration status (UNAIDS Secretariat).

Over 2 million male condoms were procured and distributed to 24 territorial service centres, while 325 healthcare professionals built their capacity in delivering quality combination HIV prevention services (UNFPA). South-South cooperation dialogues enabled civil society representatives and other national partners to exchange on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), HIV self-testing, and monkey pox prevention (UNAIDS Secretariat). In addition, the prevention and management of HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and tuberculosis co-infection, and hepatitis B and C in primary healthcare services was strengthened through the training of 1001 healthcare workers (WHO). Comprehensive, gender-sensitive and stigma-free services were also promoted among law enforcement officials, with the use of interdisciplinary teams encouraged in 44 police stations across the country (UNDP). Guided by the Joint Team, a total of US$ 23 million from the Global Fund (2022-2025) further supported the scaling up of HIV services among key populations.

A total of 27 591 (82% pregnant women) refugees, migrants and people from host communities accessed HIV testing, care, and treatment services, while 778 people living with HIV received facility- and community-based viral load testing and CD4 count services. The training of 270 healthcare professionals also improved integration and delivery of quality prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services. In addition, 128 people living with or affected by HIV and their families, including people from key populations, benefitted from a municipality-led food assistance programme, including empowerment skills for livelihood and food security (WFP).

Comprehensive sexuality education programmes reached 1389 young people in schools improving their knowledge and skills on prevention of HIV, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and early or unplanned pregnancies; and 71 facilitators built their capacity on the delivery of out-of-school comprehensive sexuality education (UNFPA).
